Intuit QuickBooks Error 6147,0

We had a client call looking for support for an error 6147,0 which they were receiving when opening QuickBooks Enterprise Manufacturing and Wholesale Edition Version 2010.  They have their QBW located on a Windows 2008 server and shared to Windows 7 workstations in our office.  While trying to access the QuickBooks file from a workstation they received an error 6147,0 on all systems except one.  We found and followed the steps outlined on the Intuit Quickbooks support site http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/SLN40308 but after following all the steps outlined on this support page we were still not able to access their QuickBooks data on their workstations.

Fearing that their data file was corrupt their were faced with living with the issue, restoring an old version, or calling tech support.  Frustrated and Confused we called the Intuit Support help desk.  We were connected immediately to a support engineer named Bhanu who knew immediately what to do.  The solution that worked for us included the following.

1.       Create a new folder on the server to be shared to the staff.
2.       Copy the QBW file into the new folder
3.       Rename the QBW file
4.       Open the newly renamed file and switch to multi-user mode.

The client spent a couple of days struggling with this issue.  The problem was resolved in 30 miniutes by our team.  Although our engineer didn't resolve this issue by himself.  It was clear that the issue wasn't caused by items described in the Intuit QuickBooks support knowledge base for the error 6147,0.  Our client was very happy that our engineering team took ownership of the issue and found a solution.

We hope this helps others who encounter this Intuit Quickbooks error 6147,0 when they can't open their Quickbooks QBW file.  Check us out at http://www.iguardnetwork.com/.
